The Henri Delaunay Trophy is awarded to the winner of the UEFA European Football Championship. The Trophy is named in honor of Henri Delaunay, first General Secretary of UEFA and founder of the competition.
No third place match has been played since 1984. Since 1984, we list as third the loser semi-finalist defeated by the final winner
Participants are selected through a system of qualification's groups and play-offs. A spot is reserved to the hosting country.
Until 1980, only 4 teams were involved in the final stage of the competition.
In 1980, the final stage was extended to 8 teams and in 1996 to 16 teams.
Starting from 2016, the final stage will be open to the participation of 24 national teams.
